    Tripura has crossed a significant milestone in its clean energy journey, with the cumulative installed capacity of rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana reaching 15.3 MW. The achievement reflects the state’s growing adoption of decentralised renewable energy and rooftop solar among residential consumers.

    According to official data as of July 27, 2026, the state has registered 17,330 applications under the scheme. Of these, 7,846 applications have been approved for execution, representing a proposed rooftop solar capacity of 24,733 kWp. So far, rooftop solar systems have been installed in 4,460 households, creating a cumulative installed capacity of 15,300 kWp (15.3 MW).

    Financial assistance under the programme has also gained momentum. A total of 3,853 consumers have received central subsidies amounting to more than ₹32.52 crore, helping reduce the upfront cost of rooftop solar installations and encouraging wider household participation in the scheme.

    The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana enables households to generate electricity for their own consumption while exporting surplus power to the grid through net metering. The initiative is helping reduce dependence on conventional electricity sources, lower household electricity bills and promote clean, distributed power generation across the state.
