JSW Energy has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China-based Rongjie Energy, a part of RJE Tech, for the supply of 5 GWh of energy storage systems (ESS). The agreement covers ESS configurations of 5 MWh and 6.26 MWh, based on Rongjie Energy’s 314Ah and newly mass-produced 588Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells.
The partnership is expected to support JSW Energy’s growing energy storage requirements as the company expands its renewable energy portfolio and strengthens its energy transition strategy. JSW Energy currently has an installed power generation capacity of 13.45 GW and has set a target of achieving 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030. The proposed 5 GWh supply arrangement with Rongjie Energy is expected to contribute to this planned expansion.
Rongjie Energy’s 314Ah and 588Ah LFP cells are designed for large-scale energy storage applications, including utility-scale and commercial and industrial (C&I) projects. The agreement also comes amid the company’s expanding presence in the energy storage market, following a recent 4 GWh LFP cell framework agreement with Lineage Power for supply in 2027.
The collaboration comes at a time when battery energy storage is becoming increasingly important for integrating renewable power, managing fluctuations in electricity generation and meeting peak-demand requirements. For JSW Energy, the agreement marks another step towards scaling its energy storage capabilities and supporting the broader integration of renewable energy into the power system.
