    JSW Energy Limited has added 1,166 MW of renewable energy capacity since April 2026, taking its total installed power generation capacity to 14,920 MW. The company has also expanded its thermal portfolio by 300 MW following the completion of its acquisition of Maruti Clean Coal and Power Limited.

    With the latest capacity additions, renewable energy now accounts for 60% of JSW Energy’s total installed generation capacity. Its renewable portfolio includes 3,125 MW of wind, 2,360 MW of solar, 1,696 MW of hybrid and 1,781 MW of hydro capacity. The company’s thermal generation capacity stands at 5,958 MW.

    JSW Energy said the 1,166 MW renewable capacity added since April 2026 has already exceeded 94% of the total organic capacity added during FY26, highlighting the pace of its renewable energy expansion.

    The company currently has a locked-in generation capacity of 32.4 GW, comprising 14.9 GW of operational capacity, 13.5 GW under construction and a 4 GW development pipeline. In addition, JSW Energy has secured 29.6 GWh of energy storage capacity, including 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage and 3.2 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS).

    Looking ahead, JSW Energy remains on track to add 3 GW of greenfield capacity in FY27. The company is targeting 30 GW of total generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030, reinforcing its focus on scaling renewable generation and storage capabilities.

    As part of its long-term sustainability strategy, JSW Energy has also set a target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The company’s expanding renewable and energy storage portfolio is expected to play a key role in supporting its transition towards a lower-carbon generation mix.

    Juniper Green Energy Limited has emerged as the winning bidder for 230 MW in the e-reverse auction conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for its 1,000 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) Round-the-Clock renewable energy tender. The company secured the capacity at a tariff of ₹5.26 per unit.

    The Letter of Award (LOA) is expected to be issued within the timelines prescribed under the tender document. The project will be supported by a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SECI, with the Scheduled Commercial Operation Date (SCOD) set at 24 months from the effective date of the PPA.

    The project will expand Juniper Green Energy’s portfolio of FDRE and round-the-clock renewable energy projects. It will integrate solar, wind and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technologies to deliver firm and reliable renewable power.

    Under the tender requirements, the project will have to meet specified Delivered Firm Round-the-Clock (DFR) commitments. These include a minimum of 90% delivery during designated peak hours, 50–60% during solar hours and 70% during non-solar, non-peak hours.

    Juniper Green Energy said its integrated capabilities across solar, wind and battery storage will support consistent power delivery and strengthen its position in the emerging FDRE segment.

    Verdant and Aura Merge to Build 1 GW UK Solar and Storage Player

    Verdant Energy and Aura Power Developments Limited have announced the merger of their businesses to form one of the UK’s leading independent power producers (IPP) in solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The combined entity will be led by Simon Coulson, founder and chief executive of Aura Power, who retains a minority stake in the merged structure.

    The new platform combines Verdant’s operating and under-construction assets with Aura Power’s contracted portfolio, forming roughly 1 GW of solar and battery storage capacity in the UK, alongside a further development pipeline of about 10 GW.

    Alongside the merger, CVC DIF secured financing from Eiffel Investment Group to support the transaction, refinance existing junior facilities and fund future growth of the combined pipeline. CVC DIF’s investment was made through the DIF Infrastructure VII (DIF VII) vehicle. The deal fits into a broader wave of consolidation across the global solar sector, which has recently seen European Energy divest a 90 MW solar park in Italy and Origis Energy grow its Rockhound solar complex to 1 GW in Texas.

    Founded in 2013, Aura Power has developed more than 2.1 GW of solar and battery storage projects to ready-to-build or commercialised stage in the UK and internationally, in partnership with exiting shareholder ib vogt. The company recently pivoted to an IPP model, reaching financial close on six UK solar projects and energising its first asset, Kemble, earlier this year.

    Verdant, launched in 2022, has built a portfolio of roughly 660 MW of utility-scale solar and co-located battery storage assets, operating or under construction across the UK. The combined business will employ more than 75 people, with a leadership team drawn from both companies spanning development, construction, commercial, legal and finance.

    The merger also includes selective continued development of Aura Power’s battery storage pipeline in Europe. According to Simon Coulson, founder and chief executive of Aura Power, the merger with Verdant Energy, backed by CVC DIF, marks a transformative milestone for the company. He said combining Aura Power’s development pipeline with Verdant’s operational track record would position the platform to accelerate its IPP model and the delivery of solar and battery storage infrastructure considered critical to the UK’s green energy targets.

    Caine Bouwmeester, partner and head of renewable energy at CVC DIF, said the transaction builds on the fund’s original investment in Verdant, bringing together two complementary businesses to create a leading UK solar and BESS IPP. He added that the platform now has the scale, pipeline and delivery capability needed to generate long-term value, as CVC DIF partners with Simon Coulson and his team through the next phase of growth.
